Coach House
This unique home, which we completed in 2019, was a disused Coach House on the St Margaret’s Estate north of Twickenham Park. We worked with our client to develop a design focused on retaining and retrofitting the existing structure to achieve a highly sustainable family home.
To do this we collaborated with ZEDfactory's Bill Dunster through the concept design process on a proposal that would bring the scheme close to Passive House standards. The resulting 3 bedroom family home retains much of the existing fabric, and where new materials are introduced they embrace a face finished aesthetic. The interior is made up of naturally lit spaces with openable windows despite the constrained nature of the site. The structural survey revealed that the front elevation would need to be rebuilt, so the opportunity was taken to move it a metre towards the boundary, which unlocked solutions to the internal layouts and opportunity to manage daylight into the property by subtle variations in window locations on the replacement facade.
